In early January, FBI agents in Norfolk, Virginia picked up some alarming intelligence about

what was being planned by some right-wing activists headed to Washington for the rally

called by Donald Trump to protest the results of the presidential election.

The activists were talking among themselves online and making no secret about what they

had in mind.

Be ready to fight, one of them wrote, Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being

kicked in and blood.

Stop calling this a march or a rally or a protest.

Go there ready for war.

We get our president or we die.

On the 5th of January, the Norfolk Office circulated a situational information report about

what had it learned, but there is still no indication that the document was widely distributed

and shared throughout the government.

Is this a failure of imagination as some have suggested or a failure by senior officials

at the highest levels of the U.S. government to do their job?
