Summary

NEW: Come along to our free Shadow and Dreams Seminar on May 17

Ever wonder why “Snow White” still hooks us after all the Disney glitter flakes off? This episode strips the tale down to its psychological wiring: murderous envy of the mother shadow, malignant innocence, the unforgiving “mirror” inside that only answers the questions we’re brave enough to ask, and the dangerous alchemy that transforms three lethal mistakes into mature authority.

You’ll hear why the dwarflike bits of half-formed masculinity in all of us mine gold from the unconscious, how raw instinct often finishes the work refined methods can’t, and how real agency activates only when infantile fantasies are forged into a powerful animus. It’s a crash course in holding onto wonder while crafting ruthless boundaries—if that mix intrigues you, dive into the full conversation.

Lisa is traveling today to pick up a fairy tale and kind of move it around, look at it, be curious about it from a Jungian perspective. And it can be really interesting

and exciting, particularly a fairy tale that is so present in our modern culture.

Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, some of these fairy tales, which are ancient,

some people speculate are perhaps even thousands of years old before they were finally recorded,

often by the Grimm's Brothers for us, capture ancient

and archetypal information.

1:34.3

One of the things that's unique about fairy tales is that fairy tales have been curated by

the collective for hundreds if not thousands of years, meaning that if a story is too

tied to a specific cultural narrative over time, it tends to fall away. If a story has ancient

and eternal patterns in it, it stays alive regardless of time and

culture.

So we're turning to the original Grimm's version of the story, which is quite different from

what we might be familiar with in the Disney cartoons, or what turned out to be the rather disappointing

recent Disney reimagining of the story. So here we are with Snow White, and underneath the
