The Proto Evangelion of James.

This is a non-canonical book.

It's fairly early, written in the second century, and was thought to be written by James by some of the church fathers.

This book is actually where we source our earliest information about the supposed perpetual virginity of Mary,

information about her upbringing, how she was born, like specifics about her parents,

all kinds of stuff that actually entered into recently into a Netflix movie about Mary.

So that movie actually sourced this book, the proto-evangelion of James, more than it

did the Bible for its content. So I'm going to be talking to you guys. I have a cat on my lap about this today, but not

me lecturing you about it. I'm going to read it to you. I'm going to read you the entire book.

This is going to be the entire proto-evangelion of want to get into all that, or even all the debates.

I just want to read through the whole book.

It's going to be a straight read video.

But I will pause here and there to offer insights, explain a little thing here and there.

And this will be something of an experiment to just read an ancient, early Christian-ish book. I say ish because it's not heretical, I don't think.

But there's some stuff here that's definitely sketchy and it was written by a guy who says he was

James and was clearly not James. So it was definitely a deceitful work. All right, let's get into it.

This is that I'll put it on your screen. And we'll just start with chapter

1, the proto-evangelion of James. This is about, starts with her dad, Mary's dad, okay. In the

histories of the 12 tribes of Israel, Joachim was a very rich man. And he doubled the gifts he offered

to the Lord, saying to himself, he gave twice what it was required, saying to himself,

one is for my surplus for all the people, and the other is to the Lord God for forgiveness to
