Hey everybody I get to bring back an old favorite format reading lives.

Longtime listeners might remember as a show I used to do where I talked to and bookish

person about their life in books and bringing it back for a few of these bonus

episodes over the year. Gabriel Bump is my first guest, his debut novel we talked about on the Winter Spring

preview show and it came out yesterday and I want people to read it and I want people to know

about this author and this is a great way to do it.

is the main character, a young man growing up on the south side of Chicago,

kind of an average kid except he's black and it's hard to be just an average kid in America when you're young and black and black at all.

And this book treasles with those issues and wrestles with them and it's a really

fun book, a funny book, a challenging book and an important book.

Gabriel Bump grew up in the south side of Chicago currently lives and teaches in

Buffalo, New York.
