The 46th President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden of Delaware, has just concluded

his historic remarks from behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office that was first sat in

by Theodore Roosevelt at the turn of the 20th century. From there, President Biden explained to the country his decision

to step aside and to pass the torch to a new generation. What the American people witnessed

after nine years of Donald Trump was something astonishing. What they

witnessed was love, service, humility, grace. What they witnessed was a president of the United

States putting the country first. And now at this hour, 103 days before the election, there is a duality. Donald Trump is the man who would not

leave power. Who would not give it up? Donald Trump is the man who launched an insurrection.

He has been effective during these last years at blurring the lines, at making meaningless

the investigations, at blurring everything

that has come this way, because he has always been able to point at the other side, to point

at the excesses. What was missing from the equation was an act, a deed, an action, something so unexpected, so awesome, something coming from a place

of a deep love of country, a notion of deep service and duty, and that is what President Biden did.

And that's what marks this address among the most important in the history of the United

States as he passed the torch to a new generation, stepping aside and importantly reminding the

American people of their duty, saying to the American people, I have run the race, I have fought the good fight. And now it's in your

hands. And it is. For we are stewards, temporary custodians of the greatest idea and experiment in

history. And that's what we all share in common. And now, Vice President Harris will be the leader of the

Democratic Party. President Biden shed that tonight. He remains, of course, the commander in chief,

the head of state, president of the United States. We have only one of those at a time. But it's
