Hello, I'm Dan Bardell and welcome to the England show podcast from The Athletic.

England have just been in Germany in the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time since 1966 and it is a wonderful feeling, a kind of feeling I didn't think I was ever going

to have in my lifetime. I'm going to try not to float up to the ceiling as I take you through

the events of the day with David Priest and Carl Anker. So without further ado, here's our

analysis of England to, Germany, Neil.

This is not a drill. You did hear me, Carrelma.

I just thought it was a brilliant afternoon, you know.

We've talked about bringing enjoyment to the nation, really,

and afternoons like this are what that's about and the players were absolutely immense right the way through the team and the fans were as well

you know they get I mean only 40,000 but it's as good an atmosphere as I can remember in Wembley

so we played extremely well um I think we deserve the

win but I've had to say to them straight away look I'm the party pooper because if we go and we

don't capitalise on that on Saturday now then it doesn't count for anything you know that you change

the shape you pick certain personnel instead of others,

and if it goes wrong, you're dead.

So we had to go about it in the way we believed.

We wanted aggressive pressure all over the field.

We felt that to match them up was the right way of doing that,

and we felt that speed in behind Harry would cause them a problem,

and I thought Bukaya and Rahim right from the start really created that jeopardy in their backline.

We know that they were going to have moments of possession because they've got really good footballers, experienced players.
