Summary

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 62 There is a psychological phenomenon called "reactance" that is triggered when someone is convinced they're likely to lose liberties and freedoms they currently enjoy. It's a powerful effect that motivates action and forces people to take a side, usually against the perceived threat to their liberty. Woke manipulators know this and use it frequently. They explain that their enemies, usually members of a free society, are "fascists" who want to "limit the rights" of some vulnerable group. The goal is to trigger activation through reactance to join up in solidarity with the threatened group. You'll notice Leftists do this all the time, by the way. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay explains this form of activism and how it works to polarize and activate useful idiots in the Leftist base. Hey everybody, this is James Lindsay, you're listening to new Discourses Bullets where

0:14.9

I discuss a single topic from woke Marxism and kind of bullet point fashion so that you

0:20.4

know how to resist it or call it out or see it or teach other people about it.

0:25.6

And today there's a concept in political warfare and psychological warfare that I want

0:29.7

to talk about called reactants. It's a kind of technical term a lot of people are not

0:34.1

familiar with, which you're going to be very familiar with the circumstance. The usual

0:39.0

way that you're going to encounter reactants, the feeling is that this is really bad and we

0:44.0

must pick a side. That's what you're going to encounter. But typically the way that more formally,

0:49.4

the way that reactants is defined psychologically is that it's the reaction, so reactants,

0:56.2

that people tend to have when they perceive that they're losing freedom. So they have freedoms,

1:01.9

they have liberties, they have the ability to interact in the world according to their own

1:06.5

agency and that somebody's going to limit that or take it away and that feeling that you have

1:11.3

of like, oh hell no, is reactants. It's psychologically speaking. It's a very strong resistance to the

1:18.1

perception that you're losing freedom. So what you'll see is a lot of political warfare narratives,

1:23.1

in other words propaganda being issued by the Marxist left and you'll even see this used by

1:29.6

reactionaries, which you'll also see it being used accurately. So a lot of discernments needed

1:34.4

accurately by people who are indicating very clearly that this is exactly what both the reaction

1:40.2

movement, but more importantly, the woke left is trying to achieve. What you'll see is some

1:47.8

messaging saying, here you have all this freedom. Maybe it's an issue like trans rights are human

1:54.3

rights and you're going to have your, you've had these freedoms and you're going to have them

1:57.3

taken away. When you hear them frame out abortion rights as a kind of human right that was somehow

2:03.4

a constitutional right because of the decision in Roe v Wade, which got overturned, they're trying
