These dirt bike ferrels move here and they think it's the Wild West. It is full out war and they are the instigators off. The police find them. He paid thousands of dollars for that chainsaw incident, breaching the noise abatement notice, and senior constable actually said to me that he'd never seen the case so bad out here.

That's the voice of Desi Freeman, complaining on a current affair in 2018 from his property in rural Victoria about neighbours disturbing his peace.

He's now accused of murdering two police members in an ambush at that property earlier

this week.

He's believed to be a member of the sovereign citizen movement.

Several weeks ago, we published an episode called Has Australia Become a Conspiracy Nation,

in which authors Ariel Bogle and Cam Wilson discussed their research into the

sovereign citizen movement, among other things.

We talked then about the 2022 ambush murders of two Queensland police members at a remote

property in William Billa by brothers Gareth and Nathaniel Train and Gareth's wife, Stacey

Train.

I asked our guests if they thought something like that could happen again in Australia,

and they agreed it could. And now it has.

We first covered this movement on Australian True Crime back in 2023,

with two women who'd made it their mission to investigate and understand what this movement was about and how much of a threat it poses.
