You know so often we meet these Nobel Prize awards with I don't know the best case a shrug has been maybe you know I guess in the case of well that's not true we got Monroe I thought with Dylan was interesting I would agree with me but I haven't

been delight as delighted in a long time maybe as as an adult, I mean Morrison one in 93, I was 15, I hadn't read any Morrison at that point.

But for Glick, Louise Gl apparently is how you actually say it.

She, her family says it.

This is where I was over educated and underinformed saying Glick, like a German, the proto-German speaker that I am did the unusual thing for me

of reminding myself about a writer I really liked which is weird because I'm old now and I can do things like this but a service that the

Nobel has never really any award has really done for me frankly it's like oh yeah

and then getting an excuse for that for this episode to dive back in. I'd say my reading of Glick has been

superficial is too strong but kind of just picking and choosing and we can get into this

a little bit later but I've got a lot of future reading ahead of me with Glick I'm really

excited about so I think for me it was really a case of oh yeah and oh wow and oh yes about

how to be reminded and presented in a different way about Glick. I think I said to you, I can't remember

if it was on or off, that I thought you in encountering Glick would be very very delighted and find something there to nourish you did that turn out to be right it did it really did I had the lucky lucky experience of you know like we know in the book world that when the

Nobel gets announced and it's always a surprise and often it's an unexpected

person that you know booksellers haven't had a chance to like stock up and I got off of I think we were talking about it on the

podcast last week and I hung up from that call and immediately started trying to find a local bookstore

that had any Louise Glick in stock and I lucked out and I think I

snagged like the last existing copy of her collected poems from 1962 to

2012 that at a Barnes and Noble down the street like went and got it and came home and I did a mix of flipping through and just sort of seeing what I had landed on and then I read some pieces that you had mentioned as your favorites and I'd asked our

contributors about favorites and touched base with a few friends and so that was

sort of how I found my way in you know there was no way I was going to catch up on a

60 year-long career over the course of like four days and I really was just sort of my jaw dropped. I was just blown away and I was like, oh, well,
