This is RCT number 74, making a good confession. RCT stands for the Roman Catechism of Trent.

0:07.2

Today we are on pages 304 to 310. God grant you his peace. In nominipatri Cifidi,

0:15.8

et spiti to santi, amen. O heavenly king, comforter, spirit of truth, who art everywhere present, and fillest all things,

0:24.0

treasury of good things, and giver of life. Come and dwell in us and cleanse us of all impurity

0:30.3

and save our souls, O good one. In nomi Patri Sifidi, it spriti, Amen. And the catechism of Trent reads, the law of confession.

0:40.7

Nor let it be supposed that although confession was instituted by our Lord, he did not declare

0:46.2

its use to be necessary.

0:47.5

The faithful must be impressed with the conviction that he who is dead in sin is to be

0:53.3

recalled to spiritual life by means of sacramental

0:57.7

people to whom confession is unnecessary for salvation are the babies who die shortly after baptism.

1:20.3

In that case, of course, baptism covers them for their salvation. But even Catholic adults who have

1:27.0

never committed immortal sin, you're still required to

1:30.1

make at least a yearly confession of your venial sins. Now, my experience is those few Catholics

1:37.2

living that close to God actually tend to go to confession every week or two. There's nothing

1:41.9

wrong with confessing venial sins. Of course, you're only required

1:46.9

to confess your mortal sins, but there's a lot of grace in confessing venial sins given to

1:52.1

the confessional to avoid those sins in the future. And of course, there's some very unusual

1:57.8

exceptions to everything I just gave, like, of course, the Blessed Virgin Mary would attend the masses of St. John the Beloved, but of course, she never confessed

2:05.6

to him because there was nothing to confess.
