Summary

Dr Flowers walks through a classic sermon from the highly esteemed Calvinistic theologian, Dr RC Sproul, to demonstrate the major distinctions between a Provisionist's understanding of the biblical doctrine of Predestination and that which Calvinists posit.

Notice how the Provisionist interpretation doesn't create the logical quandaries, difficulties and apparent contradictions that Sproul assumes are inherent in the text.

Hello and welcome back to Sociology 101. Today we're going to be engaging with a classic sermon. I guess you could call it. It's a long time ago that this sermon was produced. In fact,

0:22.1

I remember listening to this sermon from R.C. Spruill back on cassette tape. I used to be a part

0:29.2

of Lingenair Ministries cassette ministry where they would send out cassette taped. And I always

0:33.6

look forward to getting my Lingenair Ministry cassettes. And I would pop them in and listen to them either driving or in my house or wherever. And loved R.C. Spruill's voice.

0:43.3

I always loved his teaching. Didn't get to see very much of him because most of what I heard

0:46.8

from him was either on the radio or on cassette. And so as you can see there, I didn't realize

0:52.5

how much like Peter Falk, Colombo, that R.C. Spruill looks like, especially back in the day.

0:59.0

I guess this is in the 80s, I'm assuming probably in the 80s.

1:03.2

Many of y'all remember Peter Falk with Colombo.

1:07.2

He's very fast.

1:08.1

I didn't, you know, I'd never realize until I begin to see more video of R.C.'s parole,

1:12.9

how much he does look like, Peter Falk.

1:15.7

But I have a great affection for R.C.

1:18.9

I mean, he's, he's always been one of my favorite teachers growing up.

1:23.7

Obviously, I very much disagree with him with regard to sociology as many of you well know,

1:27.8

but it doesn't change the fact that you can still have a respect for a person, his integrity

1:32.8

as a man, his intellect as a scholar, his teaching overall from many of the areas of ministry

1:41.4

and theology I would agree with. I just contend with him on

1:46.4

these specific topics, especially with regard to predestination. And I think he's well-intending.

1:51.1

I think just as when I was a Calvinist, I really did believe I was interpreting the Bible

1:56.1

correctly as a Calvinist, and I was defending the truth of God's word as a Calvinist. And I'm

2:00.5

sure that's
