it's not a political book, but it's a very religious book. Did you write this with a purpose?

I mean, when you sit down to write this, we were just telling a story or did you have a purpose in mind?

Well, Andrew, my first purpose always is to entertain my readers. And, though I know it is

children's literature, I think of this as a family read. And the reason we decided to make it a

picture book is because these wise men, we encounter them and have encountered them,

firstly as children and in a family. And I thought, I wanted to write a fun story about the

wise men sort of telling a fable that perhaps had fallen out of favor or been forgotten. So I went

looking and what I discovered is everything we think we know about these wise men turns out to be

legendary. I mean, you know the song, We Three Kings of Oriental are, well, they weren't. They

weren't free. They weren't kings and they weren't from the far east. They were from the east,

though, the immediate east of Judea, which would be modern day Petra, the kingdom of Navatia. So

once I established that, and this is first century sources, Clement of Rome, Justin Martyr,

they all say the wise men came from Arabia. So once you figure that out, you dig into where were
