Summary

Humans have been drinking cow’s milk for thousands of years, so why did pasteurization suddenly become the standard only in the last century? In this episode, we dive deep into the ancient history of dairy, lactose tolerance, fermented milk traditions, and how the Industrial Revolution radically changed the way milk was produced, transported, and consumed. We explore swill milk, milk sickness, rising infant mortality, the rise of pasteurization, and the powerful institutions and economic forces that shaped the modern dairy industry. From gut health and beneficial bacteria to government regulation, corporate control, and food independence, this episode challenges the mainstream narrative around raw milk and asks whether pasteurization is truly about safety—or something more. Follow me down the rabbit hole about the dairy industry. www.stayskeptical.com Watch: https://rumble.com/user/rabbitholepodcast https://www.youtube.com/@Rabbit.holepodcast Wise Wolf Gold: https://www.wolfpack.gold/?ref=jvujkwgs Sources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jcwvgWpPz8GqLxNwpeJM7AHqBJL2O3JWVdE8ggKK7_8/edit?usp=sharing Learn more about your ad choices. 1:04.2

humans have been drinking cow's milk for more than 10,000 years. This started with the

1:09.3

domestication of goats, sheep, and cattle during the Neolithic

1:12.7

or agricultural revolution. It started in the Fertile Crescent region, which is modern day, like

1:18.4

Middle East, and parts of Europe and South Asia. Leading up to this, humans were still in the

1:23.7

hunter-gatherer stage and only drank milk from their moms in infancy, rarely drinking

1:28.3

milk any other stage of life after infancy. We have archaeological evidence of milk processing

1:35.3

through residue analysis of ceramics from Anatolia 9,000 years ago. So they started domesticating

1:41.4

large mammals about 10,000 years ago and it is assumed that that's when the milking started, but actual evidence goes back at least 9,000 years.

1:48.8

In fact, in Europe, about 8,000 years ago, we find evidence of cheese processing.

1:54.2

Ceramics in Libya point to milk processing about 7,000 years ago and in, 5,500 years ago. Analysis of dental calculus

2:02.8

revealed people were either drinking milk or some other lactase-rich drink 5,000 years ago.

2:08.9

Why we started drinking milk is a whole different question in itself, because it seems weird
