Summary

851: If you’ve taken a golf lesson in the last 15 years, your instructor may have used a Trackman launch monitor to gather shot data. But Trackman is a huge investment which can exceed $25,000. The project stalled, but Fred held onto the interview for five years before making it a Golf Smarter episode. This is the first time this episode has ever been released as it was a Members Only episode when it was originally published in December 2010.  Be part of the podcast and introduce our next episode! Quick note, not sure how this happened, but if I sound a bit distant on this interview,

0:04.8

it's because my microphone wasn't connected and my AirPods pros were the microphone that was recorded.

Strange. But here we go.

0:13.7

In the past, when people didn't have access to launch monitors or they didn't exist,

0:18.0

you're guessing or you're seeing where the ball lands on the range.

0:26.0

It was just a much more difficult process versus now you can track that.

0:30.8

So I can take my MLM out on the range and I can see what my club speed's doing week over week,

0:32.4

what my ball speed is.

0:34.7

I don't have to guess what my launch angle is.

0:38.6

Kind of generally, you want your driver to launch between 10 and 16 degrees.

0:42.3

Obviously, that depends on your swing speed. The slower you swing it, if you're swinging sub 90 miles per hour, you might want it closer to 17, 18 degrees. But that's something before.

higher. But now you can set your launch monitor down and see, wow, I'm launching my driver at eight degrees, so I'm leaving some distance on the table, or maybe it is in the right spot. It just takes a lot of that guesswork out of there. Am I improving or what areas do I need to improve are kind of the biggest things? Hi, this is David Haramow from Grand Rebis, Michigan, and I play at the Mines Golf Club.
