Hey, what's up, everybody?

0:13.3

Welcome into Tom Perrin's Patriots Talk podcast alongside my guy, Phil Perry.

0:17.1

We have an emergency pod because the Patriots have announced all their coordinators.

0:23.4

We already knew that Jeremy Springer was going to do special teams.

0:28.4

DeMarcus Covington is going to be the defensive coordinator. But the big surprise is Alex Van Pelt out of nowhere. He's going to take over as the Patriots offensive coordinator.

0:34.4

Now, before we bring Philly, let's give a little bio. Alex Dan Pelt is

0:37.7

53 years old, former pit quarterback. I remember him playing there. And then he was with the

0:42.3

bills for a long time as a backup quarterback. He had interviews with the Raiders and the

0:49.2

Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to coming in to see the Patriots. The Patriots basically had him in for an in-person

0:55.5

interview, didn't let him leave, didn't let them leave. Maybe that's because of the other

opportunities that were out there. But Phil, a dozen offensive coordinator candidates came

1:15.6

I expressed on our last pod just my concern about rookies all over the place. Well, in Alex

1:22.2

Van Pelt, the Patriots do not have a rookie. They have a 53-year-old guy who's been the coordinator

1:26.4

for the Cleveland Browns for the last three years, 2020, 2021, in through 2023 when the Browns go to the playoffs.

1:34.0

And they use a whole fleet of different quarterbacks, Joe Flacco included. So you go to Sean Watson,

1:40.3

to him being in and out of the lineup, to Joe Flacco. And yeah, you're a defensive-oriented team,

1:45.1

but you don't have Nick Chubb and you still get to the playoffs.

1:47.6

So enough out of me.

1:49.1

I'm going to give you the ball once I just say that to me,

1:52.7

this is a DCS situation, best case scenario,

1:58.5

because you needed somebody with some experience who's not going to be an interloper.
