Summary

Ravi kicks off the show with an update on the latest legal developments in Trump world, including the Supreme Court's decision to overturn a Colorado court verdict that excluded Trump from the state's Republican presidential primary ballot. Former Congressman Carlos Curbelo then joins Ravi to discuss the evolving dynamics of Hispanic voters' allegiance, the failed push for immigration reform and stricter gun laws, and what it will take to defeat Trump in November. Welcome to the Lost Debate, a show for political eclectics. I'm Ravi Gupta. And today I'll be talking with

0:06.5

former Republican Congressman Carlos Corbello, who was a congressman out of Miami. He has been a member of the branch team.

0:13.9

He used to host a Spanish language podcast with us. And he's going to come on and talk about the

0:19.4

immigration debate, Biden versus Trump.

0:22.6

He's going to talk about gun control, which was something he was very much involved in when he

0:27.4

was in Congress. He'll talk about bipartisanship and just leading in politics in 2024. But before

0:32.9

we get there, I have a few housekeeping items. I am back. I was in India and then I was in New York for a half a day.

0:39.2

And then I went to Arizona to give a talk. And I went to L.A. to record over at the crooked

0:43.1

offices for that India pod. Then I went to D.C. to do this debate at the American Enterprise Institute

0:48.2

that we put out last Thursday. But now I'm back. And there are a couple of interesting things that have happened over the course of the past week that are relevant to this podcast. One was, we had this episode with Drew Kolar, Dr. Kolar, from the New Yorker where we talked about these scans, like these commercial scans. And we were talking about Prenovo, which was the scan that he and I did, which is an MRI scan. And we're talking about like, what, you know, should we have these scans available or not? And we were both sharing our

1:14.9

personal experiences. Well, I had a big personal experience about these last week. My dad went in

1:19.7

for a scan a couple weeks ago or two weeks ago, of his heart, a commercial heart scam,

1:25.4

which is not obviously part of the normal health care

1:27.5

experience. And they found a major blockage in the so-called like widow maker's artery, which

1:35.0

is basically a killer. So they rushed him in for open heart surgery last week, which was

1:39.7

successful, basically saved his life. So we're going to have Dr. Kohler back on very soon in one of the next few episodes to kind of review that and just talk about some other items. But it's so interesting that stuff that we talk about in this podcast is like literally life or death. And I'm glad my dad's in recovery. And I'll have a lot more to say about that. But it's just really fascinating. We were kind of talking about this from a theoretical perspective, you know, making it real from me and Drew who had our own examples of the scans.

2:05.0

But then obviously this big moment with my dad. There's another experience I've had, which is, you know, I've been really honest lately on this pod. and most of you heard this,

2:14.2

but at the end of last year,

2:15.7

Ricky and I did a pod

2:16.5

where we talked about

2:17.2

how Ricky was going to be on

2:18.0

way less because
