Summary

Nobody understands the border crisis quite like Vince 'Rocco' Vargas. Though most know him now as the actor behind Gilly Lopez on FX's 'Mayans M.C.', Vince is also a retired specialized law enforcement BORSTAR agent, where he operated for years on both sides of the border. He's also a veteran, having been deployed as an Army Ranger, and the author of 'Borderline: Defending the Homefront', where he shares more stories from his work in law enforcement. Having traveled the country and witnessed the problem firsthand, it's safe to say that Vince has got more than a few hot takes on how to tackle the avalanche of issues that make up the border crisis. But one thing's for sure - Vince has seen the danger, and now he has something to tell us. ---------- Chapters: 00:00 - Intro 01:16 - Going to the Border 08:47 - Drill Sergeant Selection 16:58 - You're a BORSTAR Agent Now 25:37 - The Mission That Pushed Me Out 31:08 - Sons of Anarchy & Mayans M.C. 46:27 - Authoring Borderline - Defending the Home Front 53:08 - The Great Immigration Debate 01:24:50 - Light the Fuse Retreat & The Vinny Roc Podcast ---------- Support Vince Rocco Vargas - Book: Borderline: Defending the Homefront Book - https://www.theborderlinebook.com Light The Fuse Mental Health & Wellness - https://ltfmentorship.com The Vinny Roc Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-vinnyroc-podcast/id1284060556 YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/VincentRoccoVargas275 Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/vincent.rocco.vargas ---------- Sponsors: Black Buffalo Go to https://www.blackbuffalo.com/discount/MIKEDROP and use promo code Mike Drop at checkout for 15% off your first order! the thrill of that alone was like just as cool as kicking in a door and entering, right? It was just

0:04.7

this weird connection. It was different, you know, it was a different way of using my mind,

0:12.4

using my creative side to entertain people, and I get just as much of a thrill from it, and then I landed

0:17.8

the Mayans show while I was out in LA. I see all this up politically. I was like, well, let me just

0:21.5

tell my story as a board of show agent, and maybe that'll bring light to a lot of question that

0:25.5

some people don't because I see the arguments happening. The goal is to hopefully, you know,

0:29.6

explain the career field that people don't understand. The career field has been demonized about

0:33.5

a horse whipping that was not true. The concentration camps and things like that. It's all false. It's

0:38.7

all just narratives. It's all political arguments left and right. It doesn't matter who it is. It's

0:42.8

the most humanitarian career field that we have in America. It saves more lives and it stops more

0:48.0

drugs than any other agency in the nation.

0:59.1

Welcome to Mike Drop, the podcast where relevancy is irrelevant, and we don't give a shit about

1:05.1

your feelings. Well, it gets even deeper when you start talking about the cost of all that,

1:12.9

and you start talking immigration. Yeah. Then it's like even crazier. Which is a great segue

1:18.6

into, so you left that. What made you decide to now want to get into Border Patrol and go that

1:23.2

route? You know, Sergeant Barraza, Sergeant Ricardo Barraza was one of the gentlemen who was killed

1:28.5

that day in the military, and we had a conversation beforehand about what we want to do when we get

1:33.7

out, and I thought about doing firefighting, right, like my dad, my brother. And he talked about

1:39.3

Border Patrol, and I was confused, but I was like, dude, he's Hispanic. Why would he even want

1:43.0

of a Border Patrol? I wasn't educated on any of it. I didn't even know what the career

1:47.7

field consisted of, but it just thought it was odd. And he talked about the special operation of

1:51.8

the Border Patrol and how what they do is very similar to what Rangers do, but in country.
