Since the 1980s Dr. Lacovara has been involved in many noteworthy projects. Most famously, he led the project to identify and repatriate the mummy of King Ramesses I. In this interview, we discuss the mummy and its return to Egypt, as well as the elaborate royal palace complex at Deir el-Ballas. 0:42.6	Peter Lakovaara is an Egyptologist and archaeologist.
0:46.6	He completed his PhD research in 1993 at the University of Chicago in the United States.
0:53.2	His research priority was the city of Dirier El Balas, a lesser-known palace complex dating to
0:59.9	the late second intermediate period and the very early New Kingdom.
1:04.4	We will discuss Dier al-Balas and Peter's work there later in the interview, but first
1:09.1	I want to talk about a specific person. From May
1:12.5	1998 to September 2014, Dr. Lackovaro was the senior curator of ancient Egyptian, Nubian,
1:20.5	and Near Eastern Art at the Michael C. Carlos'C. Carlos Museum of Art at Emory University,
1:26.2	in Atlanta in the United States.
1:28.6	And as part of that tenure, Peter was involved in a particular project.
1:33.1	It was under Peter Lakovara's supervision that researchers from this university
1:37.2	may have identified the mummy of Ramesses I, the Egyptian pharaoh who established the Ramesid
