| 1:30.0 | Today we'll do one half, tomorrow we'll do the other half. One meaning of Hilm, the primary meaning of Hilm is Wisdom, intelligence. The second meaning is to control anger and the two meanings are related because the essence of Wisdom is to control your anger. And our Quran has two terms, Al-Hikma and Qavmal al-Ghayb. So we'll talk about two different concepts. Today we'll do the first half of Hilm, which is Wisdom. When our Prophet ﷺ praised al-Ashajj, he said, |
| 2:00.0 | So Wisdom is one of the characteristics that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala loves, that is praised by our Prophet ﷺ and that is one of the achlak of the mumin, to be wise. And of course of the names of Allah is al-Hakim, the one who has infinite wisdom. So what does Hikma mean? What is Wisdom? The Arabs say that Hikma means you put everything in its proper place. This is what Hikma means. |
| 2:30.0 | Other scholars have defined Hikma to mean. You act in a way and you speak in a way that maximizes the benefit and minimizes the harm. |
| 2:39.8 | So what is Wisdom? Wisdom is to act and speak in a way that maximizes your benefit in this world and the next and minimizes your harm in this world and the next. |
| 2:51.2 | So the wise man has the most benefit and the least harm. That is what a wise man is. And Allah Azza wa Jal prays is Hikma in the Quran and mentions that he is the one that gives it. |
| 3:03.3 | Allah says, I give Hikma to him ever, I please. |
| 3:08.4 | Whoever has given wisdom has been given a lot of good. So Allah calls wisdom a lot of good. |
| 3:19.2 | And Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala prays is Lukman in the Quran. |
| 3:22.4 | We gave Lukman wisdom and Allah praises, Allah praises is Ma'il in the Quran. |
| 3:30.1 | We gave him glad tidings of a wise child. This is what Hikma means wise child. |
| 3:37.3 | So Allah praises Hikma and Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala grants Hikma to whom he pleases. |
| 3:42.9 | Now question. If Allah says, I give Hikma to him ever, I please. |
| 3:48.4 | Then what if somebody says, I haven't been given Hikma, I'm not that smart, I'm not that wise. |
| 3:54.3 | We say, just like every single ahlak, one part of it Allah gave you when you were born and the other part Allah Azza wa Jal allowed you to acquire. |
| 4:05.2 | So too is wisdom. As we said from the beginning, some people are born with a short temper. |
| 4:10.8 | Some people are born higher level of patience. |
| 4:14.0 | It doesn't give an excuse to either one. Both of them have to strive to be better. |
| 4:18.8 | Allah gives strengths and weaknesses and disperses them amongst the creation. |
| 4:23.5 | Every one of you has talents and strengths and also weaknesses. |
