It's Brian Lehrer, and this is my daily politics podcast from WNYC Studios. It's Wednesday, March 11th.

I'm not sure which is the bigger presidential campaign news this morning, that Joe Biden won as

0:20.0

decisively as he did last night,

0:22.0

or that both Biden and Bernie Sanders canceled their election night rallies in Cleveland because of

0:28.0

coronavirus prevention. The future of campaign rallies this year is now a question, including for

0:33.6

President Trump, who relies on those rallies for political oxygen and optics more than anyone.

0:39.3

Bernie Sanders did not speak publicly at all last night. We'll talk about what his options are at this

0:45.3

0:51.7

his tone, not just his words, but how he's trying to sound less triumphant than sober and presidential.

0:58.8

Folks, look, we were planning a big rally in Cleveland night,

1:04.5

but the governor of Ohio asked the presidential campaigns

1:07.9

to cancel their indoor public events in Cleveland with large, large crowds of

1:14.3

people. And that's what we did due to the coronavirus. And he was concerned about that. And as I've

1:20.3

said all along, that we would follow the guidance of the CDC, state and local officials and public

1:26.8

health officials with respect to our

1:29.1

campaign events. We'll continue to do that. This is a matter, this whole coronavirus issue,

1:35.7

as a matter of presidential leadership. And later this week, I'll be speaking to you on what I believe

1:40.7

the nation should be doing to address this virus.

1:46.2

Joe Biden last night.

1:51.0

With us now, New York Magazine, National Politics Reporter, Gabe de Benadetti.
