My name's Tom Clarkson and I'm joined this week by a driver who on his day was a match for anyone.

He drove for Jordan Williams and Toyota in an F1 career that spanned 11 years

and he's also got a very familiar surname.

I'm talking of course about Ralph Schumacher.

Ralph won six races during his Grand Prix career and anyone who saw him drive in his first season in 1997

might tell you that six was a poor return for his ability.

After all, he finished on the podium in only his third Grand Prix for Jordan

but Ralph found himself in the right teams at the wrong time

and he also raced in an era when brother Michael was enjoying unprecedented success with Ferrari.

A few years away from the F1 paddock has mellowed Ralph somewhat

and he's also become a racing dad in recent years because his son David is now in Formula 3.

We caught up at the Russian Grand Prix last month

and it was good to see Ralph again, he looked fit and relaxed
