Mary Vance broke the news of the rumours to Faith and Duna in Rainbow Valley as soon as they were together again. It was established that they had gotten their days confused when Elder Baxter moved

the prayer meeting earlier in the week from Wednesday to Thursday.

Because Carl and Aunt Martha were ill and the minister and Gem had been west,

no one had been there to correct them. The next church meeting right at the end of the sermon

as the collection plate was about to go around, Faith stood on the pulpit and bravely addressed the accusations

that the girls had decided to clean house on a Sunday, and corrected the congregation

in attempts to clear her father of any fault. It was received in varying degrees of amusement and scandal by the Glen St Mary community,

worsened by faith's further poor judgment.
