We're well aware that Children of the forest is the name given to them by human

invaders into their territory and that their name for themselves, roughly translated from

the true tongue, which no human can speak, is those who sing the song of Earth.

In fact, in a Dance with Dragons, once Brian is informed of what they call themselves,

he gradually stops referring to them as children and picks up their preferred terminology, the singers.

Perhaps in future installments like Bran, the people of Westeros, will also learn to use the singers.
