If the title of this podcast sounds familiar,

it is because it is a quote from none other than Dalin H. Oakes.

I am recording this podcast at the end of February 2019. Less than a month ago in early

February of this year, Dalin H. Oaks went to Chicago where he addressed the young married Latter-day Saints in that area.

This was reported in the Church News February 5th, 2019 edition.

According to the article, President Oaks acknowledged that some Latter-day Saint couples

face conflicts over important values and priorities.

He then said, matters of church history and doctrinal issues have

led some spouses to inactivity.

So what he's talking about is the fact that amongst married Latter-day Saints frequently one spouse will study

church history, doctrinal issues, and that study will lead them away from the church, leaving

the remaining spouse as the active member.

In such situations, he said,

some spouses, that would be the remaining active spouse.

Some spouses wonder how to best go about researching

and responding to such issues. So if you are the remaining

active spouse in a situation like this, it would be very natural for you to want to understand

and research the issues that led your spouse out of the church.

Elder Oak's advice to such spouses was, quote, I suggest that research is not the

answer, unquote. that research is not the answer." Now on the one hand this comment is just
