Broadcasting behind enemy lines tonight's episode making doctrine Doctrine Out of Nothing at All.

A lot has been said about Elder Oaks Conference Talk a month ago in which he promoted

the proclamation on the family from policy to revelation.

Bill Reel has done an episode talking about that particular conference address and

Bill Reel and I did a separate podcast discussing the historical context of the creation

of the proclamation on the family showing that it was a political document that was created

for political means to be used in a political fight in the courts

in Hawaii over the issue of gay marriage.

Tonight I don't want to talk so much about what Elder Oaks had to say.

Instead, I want to focus on the proclamation itself, and specifically,

I want to focus on one sentence in the proclamation. Because even though the proclamation

has been advertised as simply being a re-emphasis, a re-hash, a restatement

of what prophets have said throughout the history of the church and what prophets have said repeatedly I have a suspicion that in this one sentence the leaders of the church

sneaked in to the proclamation entirely new doctrine with no or little scriptural support and not only that with little or no support

from what prior prophets have said in the history of the church.

First I want to review a couple of statements that show how this proclamation has been portrayed

as simply being a rehash of what has been said before.

In Elder Oaks General Conference Talk, he referred to this on a couple of occasions.

He stated that the proclamation on the family, quote,

is the Lord's re-emphasis of the gospel truths we need to sustain us through current challenges to the family."

In another place, Elder Oak said,
