You're listening to Business Daily from the BBC. I'm Vivienne Nunes and today I'm coming to you

from a music festival in southern England. This is quite a family-oriented festival. There's lots of

children here, lots of different music acts of course, some rides, a ferris wheel and a huge amount of food and drink on offer.

But inevitably, that also means there are toilets as well, and you might be able to hear

the sound of Portaloo doors slamming around me.

Toilets are a vital part of infrastructure at any festival, so what do you do with that waste?

Organics are converted into power.

It's natural gas which is then fed to combined heat and power generators.

Today on the program we're going to look at how a festival manages waste

and what these toilets can teach us about sanitation in other parts of the world.

So the numbers are huge and so we need to be creative and we can't just replicate what was done

in say London and try and do the same thing. Business Daily from the BBC. So I've just walked up

to the, well I have to call them the bog standard toilet.

And if I just open the door of this empty one, it's all made of plastic.

It smells.

You press the flush with your foot. I'll give it a go.

Some blue liquid. Oh, it really does smell in go. Some blue liquid.

Oh, it really does smell in here.

Some blue liquid flushes away, whatever's in the toilet.

And then I guess you can use the hand sanitizer that's provided.

So I'm happily going to leave the toilet now because it wasn't very pleasant in there.
