Summary

In this episode, Trevor and Eugene unpack intergenerational trauma with psychiatrist Rachel Yehuda. Turns out, trauma is inherited, passed down through generations, but don’t fear! The three turn the heavy science of PTSD into a profound conversation about meaning-making and we learn that where trauma can be passed-down, so can resilience.

I think for most people, you know, when we think of trauma, we think of like a bad memory,

0:07.7

like a flashback, a nightmare, story, etc.

0:10.3

And I think one of the more revolutionary ideas that you were part of putting forward was

0:55.6

of psychology, was really the question of, do we feel fear and then our bodies have a fear response?

1:04.1

Or do our bodies have a fear response? And we interpret that response and say, oh, I must be

1:10.6

afraid, right?

1:11.6

Yeah.

1:12.6

And to this day, one could argue it both ways.

1:15.6

That was a very famous debate.

1:17.6

What we have found doing neuroscience studies with PTSD,

1:23.6

with people that have PTSD, is that you can see traces of their response in their body.
