It's been less than two months since LeBron and the Lakers hoisted the Larry O'Brien

trophy inside the bubble.

But after the shortest offseason in NBA history, the new season is already upon us.

Today, as teams open up training camps, ESPN's Rachel Nichols discusses whether the league can pull off a season outside the bubble.

And after a whirlwind free agency period, what the balance of power looks like now.

So Rachel, in the past few weeks, we've been getting clarity about what this season is actually going to look like. So it's scheduled to start December 22nd. And the finals are expected to end sometime in July.

But I want to talk to you about everything that may or may not happen, I guess, in between those two dates, because this is not going to be a bubble situation.

What are the broad strokes of what the league is planning for this season?

I think one of the most interesting things that's going to happen to the NBA is that the situation in the country should, hopefully, all fingers crossed, significantly change through the course of the season.

Rachel Nichols is the host of ESPN's daily NBA show, The Jump.

She's been reporting on the NBA for nearly two decades.

It could be, maybe I'm being optimistic, that there's enough people in this country vaccinated,

that the numbers of infection are lower and deaths are low, and that we could have a full city-to-city

travel fans in the stands, NBA finals, when right now,

a majority, I think, of NBA teams or at least a big chunk of them can't even have a single

fan in the building.

And I think that the NBA is being smart in taking a sort of month-by-month approach.
