| 0:00.0 | This download is the only extract the BBC has of this edition of desert island discs. The presenter was Roy Plumley. |
| 0:08.0 | Rachel, you played in your first test match in 1960 against South Africa. How did the team do on that tour? |
| 0:15.0 | We had four test matches all together and we drew three in one one. So we hold the series over South Africa at the moment. |
| 0:22.0 | How many other series have you played in? |
| 0:24.0 | I played in 1963 in this country in three tests against Australia. Then another three tests against New Zealand in 1966 also in this country. |
| 0:34.0 | And then I had three in Australia and three in New Zealand during the winter. |
| 0:38.0 | Yes, and that last series last winter the team was undefeated. |
| 0:42.0 | Yes, yes they were. |
| 0:43.0 | When were you elected captain? |
| 0:45.0 | This was in 1966 when the New Zealanders came over to England. |
| 0:49.0 | How long are the test matches? How many days? |

| 0:59.0 | Fine. And in the Australian and New Zealand tour apart from the test matches of course you've played lots and lots of local matches. |
| 1:07.0 | Yes, yes. We played in most of the states in Australia with the exception of Queensland and Northern territories. |
| 1:15.0 | And then in New Zealand we travelled from the top of North Island to the bottom of South Island. |
| 1:20.0 | How long was the tour? |
| 1:21.0 | Four and a half months. |
| 1:22.0 | Was it? |
| 1:23.0 | Any difficulty in keeping all those ladies happy on a segregated community or so long? |
| 1:28.0 | This I thought might be a problem because you know a lot of women are together for any length of time. |
| 1:33.0 | They tend to get rather at one another strokes but in fact there were no problems at all there. |
| 1:39.0 | They're a marvellous team and they've all got a tremendous sense of humour and they all enjoyed singing when things weren't going quite so well and this helped us a lot. |
