Hello from Washington, I'm Chuck Todd, and this is the Chuck Todd cast.

So it is the most wonderful time of the year.

We have a new poll from NBC News, and today we're going to dig into everything we've learned

from this poll.

I'm going to be doing so with my partner in all things polling that I've been doing here for over 15 years

NBC News is senior political editor Mark Murray and we are going to dive

into the poll but I'm going to give you sort of you know I've been looking at at this poll and I'm going to give you a quick preview of my

column that's also up right now at NBCnews.com because what this poll essentially did was

reinforce the last three columns I've written and I and and the and I sort of merge them together because it isn't an accident. It's sort of where I think we are in the electorate. I think the biggest takeaway from this

poll is going to be the fact that fewer people are paying attention to this election

than at any point that we've asked this

question in an election year, this century.

You know, we have been experiencing a century, if you will, of political engagement.

And frankly, it makes sense, right?

The century kicked off with the 2000 election, which was essentially a disputed outcome.

Then we had 9-11.

Then we had the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, the election of the

first black president. You just go, the financial crisis. There were reasons to tune in. There were reasons

to pay attention. And here we are running a rematch and suddenly

we're tuning out. Other than the fact that both parties are providing nominees

that the country doesn't really want.

So rationally it makes sense that they're not tuning in.
