Summary

Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh shared his unique journey from growing up in Iran in a century old Jewish family, which included visits to the tomb of Mordechai and Esther in Hamedan, Iran. He spent his early years in Iran and was forced to flee his homeland at the age of 9 following the overthrow of the Shah. Arriving in the United States, he navigated the challenges of the public school system before discovering his true calling within the hallowed halls of Yeshivas.

He has been working in the field of Education for the past 29 years in numerous capacities including teaching and administration. Rabbi Sadigh holds a Master's Degree in School Building Leadership from St. John’s University, a Master's Degree in Education and Special Education from Touro University, and Rabbinic Ordination from Nechamas Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Yaakov Sadigh currently serves as Head of School at Katz Hillel Day School in Boca Raton, Florida.

0:00.0	I was born in Tehran, so I was in a Muslim school, and I remember learning Quran, and then in 1978, of course,
0:07.2	the country turned on a Ted, and I'm seeing the uprising happening right outside my window,
0:13.0	mouth of cocktails being thrown, bullets being fired, and it's pretty scary for a 8-9-year-old boy.
0:20.9	Yeah. These are vivid memories that I have of, you know, that climbing the walls of the embassy,
0:26.2	and it's estimated that close to 200,000 Jews were living in Iran at the time of the Shah.
0:32.4	It was pretty scary for Jews. They were Jews that were hunk, prominent members of the Jewish community.
0:39.2	They were Jews that were jailed. I think I remember from that night when my parents told me we're
0:43.2	leaving. We go on vacation because we need a break from the revolution. They're like, no, we're leaving.
0:49.7	Till today, there's a, I mean, estimated between 15,000, 20,000 Jews living in Iran, and they're
0:55.7	able to put on to fill in and go to school. I think by the time I got to the States, I was 10,
1:00.7	and then I attended public school at age 17. I kept Shabas. The first time? The first time.
1:05.6	I had a four-year scholarship to CW Post with cost paid and everything, and I gave it up to go to
1:10.5	Neve. I even went to learn from the Disney Institute, you know. They know how to do customers
1:15.6	service so well. Wow. So when I investigated, I found that there's a place you can go get trained
1:20.3	at the Disney Institute. Can I bring this to the school system? Because I'm sitting there with
