When I think back on my career as a journalist,

Yeah, my story was about, well my mom passed away in May last year.

And when I went back to school, because I went back into a GCSA year,

I realized that there actually isn't very much support for bereaved students at all and I really wanted to see if I could make a change.

And yeah, so what did you kind of discover about all of that then?

Well, I realized that the Joint Center for Qualifications had a sort of a guideline of...

And they're kind of like the body that oversees the exam boards aren't they?

Yeah. Yeah. I realized that they had sort of a guideline of how bereaved students are supported

and it shocked me really that the maximum grade uplift a bereaved student could get was 5% of the total marks

But the bereavement had to have happened within two months, which I thought was quite strange because of obviously grief

impact people for a lot longer than two months after the incident.
