First breaking news this morning.

Just into our newsroom a couple of minutes ago, spokesperson for the Vatican tells the Associated Press that Pope Francis has died.

They say he passed away at the Vatican at about 7.30 their time,

so around 1.30 in the morning, hour time.

88-year-old had just made an appearance yesterday during Easter Mass from a wheelchair

while he recovered from double pneumonia, which left him hospitalized for over a month.

We turned to Mike Montecalvo with more on the life of Pope Francis and his visit to the United States.

It was called the People's Pope,

attracting crowds of millions around the world.

Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergolio from Argentina

and was elected leader of the Roman Catholic Church

on March 13, 2013, on the

second day of the conclave, after the resignation of Pope Benedict the 16th. His reach went across

the globe, including Pope Francis in America, six days visiting three cities in September of 2015,

bringing his message of hope and inclusion to the American people.
