Can you tell me about the border?

One of the things about the borders is that it looks so different depending on where you are.

Arizona is lots of like rocky volcanic mountains.

You see the way that water moves through that landscape like written all over it, so you

know there's like dry washes kind of etched all across the sort of valleys in between the

mountains.

It can be intensely quiet.

You know that quiet like slows you down.

If you're out there at night you hear like the scampering of little kangaroo rats and

rodents and like beetles and lizards and snakes depending on what part of the desert you're

in, you know there's like deer and jag wire and like mountain lion.

So yeah you can you can hear a lot but it's a different kind of sound.

One of my first days out on my own, you know like toss the keys to a border patrol truck

and was like told to drive up to the top of this hill and sort of like man this like observation

And I remember looking out at this landscape and just feeling overwhelmed.

It was like when you look out at the ocean and you're like wow what a place it is vast

and full of like incomprehensible, unknowable things and that was made all the more impactful
