And we're hanging out talking about, what are we talking about, Luke?

Quitting your spiritual job.

Not your, not necessarily your actual job.

Maybe you do need to quit that job, but there's a spiritual job, a spiritual work that you are involved in, that I'm involved in from time to time.

And unless we walk away from that, like Matthew does in Matthew chapter 9 will never be truly free.

And we won't be able to be calling ourselves followers of Jesus because what it means to follow Jesus means to quit your job.

Now, Matthew chapter 9, Jesus is in Copernum. He meets a guy named Matthew. Matthew is a

tax collector and he is hated by the Jews because he's seen as a traitor. Tax collectors would

collect taxes for the Roman oppressive government and they would also take a little bit off the

top for themselves. And so they were seen as notorious hated sinners.

That's why it's crazy that Jesus asked him to follow him.

In fact, some commentators tell us that a certain village would get up and leave the village,

leave the town and go start a new town, a new village,

just because they heard a tax collector was coming

to collect taxes.

Isn't that crazy?

These guys were hated.

And then Jesus calls him to be a disciple.

That's heavy.

What that's showing us is Jesus calls the worst to the worse.

He doesn't care how far you've been, how far from God you feel like you are,
