Alright everybody we are in the deep part of the pool.

With Baratunde Thurston noted Emmy nominated host author, comedian civic activist I just

like to call him an American because he's representing all of us in so many ways at different

times in his career.

You have, you've been doing on the civic engagement front some pretty interesting work.

You founded the Jack and Jill politics with the goal to provide middle class African

Americans, you know, a different perspective on US politics and to sort of begin to re-animate

the discussion around who black people are and who we aren't.

And that's always been a very interesting space for me particularly as a black Republican.

You get all kinds of stereotype views of my philosophy to what I wear.

I remember the first time I showed up at the RNC in a striped shirt with a polka dot tie

which I thought was a pretty bad ass combination.

Well, bless your heart.

It actually it did look good.

I mean it was the striped one of these big, grottie things and they were very finely tailored

you know put together.

I remember it sounds like it's still a significant emotional resonance to that moment

for you.

Well, I'll tell you why.
