I am honored to have a true public servant from the great state of Nebraska. He is Senator

Abin Nelson. We're having discussion around his new book, Beth of the Senate, My Front

Roe Seat to the demise of the world's greatest deliberative body. So Senator, a lot of controversy,

a lot of conversation back and forth. The drama, oh my God, I'm going to say it the F word.

I'm going to say I know, I know this is a family show, but I've got to say it.

Philobuster. What is going on? This is a, this is not something that is required in by the

Constitution. It's not something that's mandated by federal statute. What's the deal with the

Philobuster? And if you were there today, how would you, I guess I could ask this part two

ways. The first part, what is this thing, this made up creature that seems as scared of

the Jesus out of everyone? And if you were there the day, how would you navigate that issue

in the context of what's going on in the country? Well, first of all, I think the concept of the

Philobuster makes a great deal of sense. If it gets overused, then it becomes, no longer is a good

tool. It becomes, if you will, a weapon. And it's never been intended to be a weapon. And so

the weaponize it is to make a, I think a great make a terrible mistake. And that has happened.

When it gets overused, it no longer is the tool. It's there for that occasion and that issue

where you need to say, no, this can't be decided on a simple majority vote. It needs to have a

weighted vote of two thirds of the body or something like that. So when it gets overused,

people get upset about it and then it becomes a four letter word. It certainly does.

I think you can adjust the Philobuster. There used to be Mr. Smith goes to Washington,

a great movie that he gets on the floor. He's there, Jimmy Stewart's there doing his thing for hours
