We are doing a deep dive into digital media and the various platforms that grew and swelled

up and then just kind of went away over the last 15 or 20 years but they have left an

indelible mark on and certainly pushed the trajectory of digital media as we know it

today.

And one of those individuals was my guest Ben Smith.

I love the chapter that you did on Breitbart.

And that, because I was very much a part of that period and very much aware of what was

happening there.

So from your perspective when you step back from that closeness of it and look down on

it from a 360 degree perspective, what the hell happened, do you think?

I mean, I think one of the things that was most surprising to me in going back and

particularly, we're talking about politics because media and politics are so intertwined.

Was that these, the people who were first at the gate on the internet placed like often

in post viewed internet media as just presumptively left wing and progressive, how a dean had

sort of been the king of the internet not because he was himself really anything in particular.

But we see captured all this anti war energy.

Right.

And the, and Obama, you know, who people forget because he's, Obama really is not a populist,
