| 0:00.0 | President Trump makes history with the longest addressed to a joint session of Congress in primetime. |
| 0:05.3 | But with all those words, what did he actually say? What to know and why it matters. |
| 0:11.1 | I'm Jenna, and this is smarter news. |
| 0:19.6 | Well, I'll be honest with you, taking an hour and 40-minute speech and reducing it to a quick hit is not easy, but it is necessary. First, fun trivia for all of us. President Trump beat out President Bill Clinton by more than 10 minutes to now have the record for the longest address to a joint session of Congress in history. |
| 0:38.7 | And the length of the speech here really does matter because of two key reasons. |
| 0:43.1 | One, it speaks to the interruptions, both disruptions and applause during the speech. |
| 0:49.1 | But two, it also speaks to how many topics were covered. |

| 1:22.8 | Trump also orchestrated some very poignant moments in the speech that felt bigger than politics. |
| 1:29.0 | These moments were emotional and also fleeting. So let's just start with one of the most memorable |
| 1:34.2 | moments of the night. And this exemplifies the broader point that I'm talking about here. |
| 1:39.1 | There was a moment when the president introduced to the audience, a young man who had the dream of becoming a police officer. |
| 1:46.7 | But we find out this young man was previously told he only had months to live because of a cancer diagnosis. |
| 1:52.8 | His name is DJ. |
| 1:54.2 | The president then makes this happen. |
| 1:57.0 | Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true, and DJ has been sworn in as an honorary law enforcement officer. |
| 2:08.6 | Actually, a number of times, the police love him, the police departments love him. |
