Summary
The Ole Miss Spirit was LIVE for over nine hours on Thursday as Trinidad Chambliss had his (successful!) court date with the NCAA.
Cleveland, Mississippi-based lawyer John Cox contributed to the Spirit’s ‘Talk of Champions’ podcast for nearly the entirety — including joining Sudu Upadhyay shortly after the ruling came down.
“You would assume [the NCAA] is going to appeal,” Cox said, in the included 22-minute explainer. “Eventually it’s going to go up to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The standard is manifest error — whether or not it’s a complete misapplication of the law. That’s why it was important to win this one.
“Judge [Robert] Whitwell was very good during the hearing of explaining that the facts of this case are different than the facts of every other case. The Alabama case, that was apples to pizza.
“As far as the long-term, if you’re willing to fight the NCAA in a court of law, you’ve got a very good shot right now. Their rules are not set up to win in court the way they’re applying them right now.”

| 0:52.8 | Everybody seems to think that was to make the |
| 0:55.0 | appeal process harder for the NCAA and to set precedent verbally for future cases. Can you just |
| 1:00.6 | kind of explain why it took Judge Whitwell so long to read the final verdict? |
| 1:05.1 | Well, I mean, the first quite obvious reason it took him so long is that it was so long an opinion. |
| 1:09.7 | I mean, if I had to read, |
| 1:11.0 | I mean, I'd love to know, I mean, I'll download it tonight and see how many pages it is. Did he say, I don't know if he said it, but if however many pages, just think how long it takes you to read that many pages. Oh, absolutely. But I mean, yeah, I mean, he did that. I mean, you cover your back. you cross your t's, you dot your eyes. You make it as, |
| 1:28.9 | as ironclad as you can because I would assume they're going to appeal. I mean, I don't know |
| 1:36.8 | why they wouldn't consider them. Didn't they deny? They denied, they denied it's, the NCAA |
| 1:40.7 | denied it's claimed today. Oh, yeah. Yeah, they've denied three different attempts now. |
| 1:45.8 | Sorry, I've been on a podcast. |
| 1:47.9 | But yeah, I mean, you would assume they're going to appeal. |
