Summary

Shane talks with anthropologist, Gina Bria, and wellness doctor, Dana Cohen about their book "Quench" which explores the new science on hydration. Is water really the only source of hydration? How do humans in desert climates stay hydrated exclusively from the foods they eat? For over two decades, Dr. Dana Cohen has been on the leading edge of integrative and functional medicine, guiding thousands of patients through protocols that initiate cellular repair and restore balance to the body. Gina Bria spreads the science of how plants transform liquid water into gel water. She shares how we can adapt and use these ideas now in our water-challenged world for better hydration and better water protection world-wide. Learn more about your ad choices. Normally, I don't deal with nutrition subjects because I don't know anything about them.

0:13.9

I don't know anything about, say, chemistry, either, you know, I just, so I don't have,

0:21.4

I've had one chemist on the show, ever, and that's not because chemistry isn't important

0:27.9

mind you. It's because it's scary. Chemistry scares me. Why? Because I don't know anything

0:37.5

about it and talking to someone that does, is it scary, scary prospect, even the things

0:44.5

that, like, evolutionary biology and psychology, stuff like that, that I feel a lot more knowledgeable

0:53.7

about, cognitive biases. Boy, I sure, I like to pat myself on the back once in a while

with some of the subjects that I'm more knowledgeable in, and then I, if I have a guest on that

1:22.6

to think, oh, we're kind of hit over the head with, with fitness things, at least that's,

1:29.4

that's been my experience of life. Some people love fitness, nutrition, everything. I feel

1:36.2

a little overwhelmed by it. I try to do these small little things to incremental changes.

1:43.6

And one of the things that I've been doing since I got my Fitbit, since my Fitbit episode

1:52.1

and just through all of COVID, I've been doing little things, it hasn't been perfect

2:00.8

incremental gains, but over time, it's definitely been making some really good gains in my

2:07.2

wellness. And one of the things that the Fitbit had me doing was, was drinking more, logging

2:17.3

my water and being more mindful of that. That's something, that's something that when

2:23.4

I did CrossFit for a while back in the day, that was one of the challenges. And it was,

2:29.6

and I had this, what's another, I had this fabulous app that I used for about a year, I

2:39.1

just stopped using it, but I did find it useful. And that was another thing of kind of an
