Summary

When Andy Murray struggled to haul himself onto a stool so that Catherine Whitaker could interview him in Australia, the idea that he would play stunning doubles at The Queen’s Club and celebrate like a big kid would have seemed frankly ridiculous.

But that’s what has happened.

Catherine spoke live to Murray for Prime Video after his straight sets win alongside Feliciano Lopez against top seeds Cabal and Farah, and David sat in on all of his interviews. Murray could not stop talking. It was a joyous occasion.

Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas scraped through against Jeremy Chardy, and now meets Felix Auger-Aliassime, who played extraordinarily well to beat both Grigor Dimitrov and Nick Kyrgios in the same day. Kyrgios had further run-ins with officialdom. And repeat.

The Tennis Podcast is produced with Telegraph Sport, and available daily throughout the Fever-Tree Championships at The Queen’s Club, and Wimbledon.

Oh, my word. What a night of tennis. We have just had Catherine Whittaker. We sit here

in the photography room here at the Viva Tree Championships. I've got my two beers in front of me.

0:34.2

I might need a third. It's that kind of night.

You don't usually have two beers at once.

Two beers at once, Law. I know. I tell you, I'm really going for it tonight.

0:43.9

And the reason is, well, for start, we actually had tennis, unbroken tennis,

0:49.7

and unbroken skies for most of the day. There were a few fluffy clouds about once in a while.

0:56.3

Rain threatened occasionally. But the stories we've had and the climax, the

1:04.7

the crescendo, it was just incredible. Let's work from from that backwards because

1:10.1

Andy Murray is back. He is back. I know it's only back in the doubles, but he's a tennis player again.

1:17.6

And he's a tennis player with the biggest smile on his face that I could possibly imagine.

1:23.1

I haven't seen Andy Murray look that happy in well over two years. And I think back to

1:29.6

when he became World No. 1 at the end of the year in 2016, that's when he looked happy the last time

1:35.2

really. And obviously, very happy in his own life. He's got a wife and kids and he's very happy

1:40.2

in that regard. But the pain just dimmed his personality for a long time. And it's released.

1:47.8

It is lifted. We've just had a press conference. Catherine was the second interview that he

1:53.1

did live just on the side of the court. And we've got pictures of him. He's just, I mean, obviously

1:58.8

Catherine's interview made him smile anyway and for Leicester and Lopez. But he was just so happy
