Amid all the death and destruction in the Middle East over the past year, there's been a behind-the-scenes effort to try to bring the fighting to an end and secure the release of hostages taken from Israel by Hamas on October

the 7th last year. But in the past few hours there's been a major blow to dwindling hopes of a ceasefire

in Gaza. Qatar, which has been key to these talks aimed at securing peace, has had enough.

The country says it is suspending its role as a key mediator between Israel and Hamas,

which is designated as a terrorist organisation by many Western governments.

A diplomatic source says Doha made the decision because it believes both Israel and Hamas have failed to negotiate in good faith.

At a weekly protest in Tel Aviv in Israel, relatives of the 100

remaining hostages held by Hamas, accused the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government

of sabotaging negotiations. Every single person who has love for the state of Israel must ask

themselves, how is it possible that not one Israeli

proposal for a comprehensive hostage release this fire deal has been presented since the

elimination of Sinoir? How it is possible that instead of taking advantage of the momentum to promote the deal, we cause

Qatar to withdraw from mediation.

Meanwhile in Gaza, the Hamas-run civil defense agency says at least 14 people have been killed,

including children, in the latest Israeli airstrikes.
