Happy Friday. On today's Q&A episode, I'm going to be answering a question I get a lot from people who are building new raised beds.

And you may not be a first time gardener to be building new raised beds. In fact, I've built two new ones this year. So I'm always expanding.

That question is, when you're starting to build or put together your raised beds,

what do you put on the bottom of them? Now, this question can address two separate issues,

and I'm going to be addressing both of those, and that is what do you fill the bottom of your

raised bed with, and what do you line the bottom of your raised bed with? what do you line the bottom of your raised

bed with but we're gonna start first of all with lining what do you line the

bottom of your raised bed with now I will tell you that I have 13 I believe

at last count raised beds and 11 of them are lined with nothing.

I've just built the raised bed out of wood

or I do have that self-watering raised bed

from good ideas and none of those are lined with anything.

But there are some benefits for taking that extra step

and lining the bottom of your raised bed. But even and lining the bottom of your raised bed.

But even with lining the bottom of your raised bed,

you need to ask the question why,

because there are different purposes

for lining the raised bed.

First of all, you can line to the bottom of your raised bed

to be a weed barrier, to cut back on persistent grass or weeds.

This is going to be more of a benefit if you have a more shallow raised bed.

So like a six, eight, even 10 inch raised beds, those are more shallow.
