Summary

Abby & Robbie Martin speak to filmmaker Cullen Hoback, director behind the documentary miniseries Q: Into the Storm. They discuss why sanitizing the internet of any existence of QAnon sets a dangerous precedent, the psychology behind his documentary subjects––both those who followed QAnon seriously and ran the message board 8chan in which Q exclusively posted––and the strange confluence of US Military intelligence officials who helped spread QAnon as a movement. Hello. Welcome to Media Roots Radio. This is Robbie Martin.

I'm going to be joined by Abby in a little bit here.

0:26.2

We have a returning guest on Media Roots Radio today.

0:29.6

A guest who has not been on the podcast since 2014, July 20th, 2014.

So it has been six years, actually almost seven years since Colin has been on Media Roots

0:43.4

Radio.

film terms and conditions may apply.

And the purpose of the episode was to chronicle and go through every single horrible thing,

1:07.8

privacy violating thing, creepy thing that Silicon Valley companies like Google,

1:12.8

Apple, and Facebook were doing back in 2014.

1:16.6

Now practically everybody talks about how these Silicon Valley companies are sketchy.

So I had kind of an affinity for Colin, even though I haven't spoken to him for many years. We only

1:29.2

spoke when we did this interview on Meteoroutes Radio. But I had always remembered and had an affinity

1:34.4

for him and his views because he was just so ahead of the curve on this documentary terms and

1:39.8

conditions may apply. Fast forward almost seven years later, I heard of the documentary miniseries Q into the

1:48.3

storm. There was six parts long that had come out already following a barrage of media coverage,

1:54.9

a vice documentary on Q that a lot of people didn't care for, a CNN documentary about Q.

2:04.6

So when I saw the preview for this, I was kind of like, well, what more could this say? Like what, you know, isn't it like a little over by now?

2:07.6

And then randomly, I think I looked it up on Wikipedia or IMDB or something,

2:12.6

and I saw that Colin Hobek was the director.
