In today's Q&A, I'm going to answer a question that I have received from multiple people this week,

and so I realize that this is probably something that many, especially beginners, have.

The questions boil down to this.

Why are my pole beans or cucumbers in particular not climbing on the trellis that I made for them?

If you know me, you know I am a huge fan

of vertical gardening.

I love growing up and I have all sorts of trellises

in my garden and I'm always wanting to create new ones.

But it's an important question when it comes to

when you buy your plants or start your seeds,

you need to make sure that you buy a variety

that is actually going to climb the trellis you've created.

Specifically, let's talk about beans and cucumbers today

because those are the two that I've received questions about.

When it comes to beans, you have either pole beans

or bush beans.

Bush beans are not going to climb a petrelis.

And they're actually pretty common when it comes to what you see in the seed catalogs or what

you see in stores. I would say I see more bush bean varieties than I do pole bean varieties

when I'm seed shopping. And so you want to be very careful to choose a pole variety

because if you don't and you plant bush beans,

they're not going to climb.
