Today's question is one I get quite often,

especially from gardeners who are looking ahead

to the gardening season and they want to have the most success

as they can, but they know that a big issue

that they will run up against sooner rather than later

is weeds. That is probably the number one concern

that people have when it comes to managing and maintaining the garden.

And so today I'm going to give you my best three tips for managing weeds.

Number one, and this is number one because it's the highest priority for me.

It's the thing that I have found has worked the best, and that is mulch.

Mouge is so important. Mouch is important for so many different reasons, but mulching is the number one way that weeds stay suppressed

as much as possible in my garden. Now, that's not to say I don't have weights, but the places

where I'm very diligent about applying

mulch, especially a thick layer. Like, you can't just spread a little bit of mulch and expect

the weeds not to get through their weeds and they are persistent for a reason. My mulch of choice

is wood chips. I have used wood chips in my garden since my very first year, 2013,

and I will put at least one layer of wood chips every season, and I would say probably three to

four inches. And I usually apply this in May when my plants are taller, so I can mulch around the

plants. And when I do that every year, the weed pressure reduces

significantly. Now, doesn't mean I will never have weeds because I don't think we'll ever

eradicate weeds, but that has been the most important. And I have to apply it every year because
