It's 1,3707 days since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and it was a sort of week we have come to expect under the Trump administration.

First, the White House released an unprecedented national security strategy, which appeared to turn decades

of US-Russia policy on its head. And then an explosive interview with the president himself,

in which he lambasted weak European leadership and even questioned Ukraine's dedication to democracy.

In response, Volodymy Zelensky said he would try to overcome legal hurdles

and hold fresh elections, provided that Ukraine's international partners could ensure the vote's

security. Now, he can probably say that, safe in the knowledge that there is little appetite

for providing that kind of support. But the Ukrainian leader will be keenly aware

that American questions about his legitimacy

echo a long-standing Kremlin talking point.
