Russia could have gone after the fall of the Soviet Union.

There were real hopes in maybe among the naive,

but there were real hopes that Russia now would as it were

join the West and I don't mean even geo politically but rather morally and structurally was that a was that a in your view was

that a foolish hope? I don't think so I think there was a foolish hope among Western scholars and some of these people who

were advising the Russian government in the 1990s that it would happen very quickly that the

economy would turn around for example as soon as

you

uh... privatized uh... state assets

uh... and get you know get them into people's hands who would try to

uh... you know maximize the profit and and so on and so forth.

But I don't think that Russia's faded to be the way it is.
