Summary

Do you own your dream for your life? Do you even have a dream for your life? Those are a couple of the questions John C. Maxwell asks in this new series, Put Your Dream to the Test, based on his book of the same title. Many people don't have a dream for their life or they give up too quickly on the one they do have. Sometimes their dream isn't actually their dream––it's someone else's dream for them.

In John's book and online course, he asks 10 questions that will help you make your dream a reality. This series covers the first of those 10 questions––the ownership question––which asks, "Is your dream really your dream?" This episode will help you identify if you truly own your dream and how you can make it a reality.

During the discussion, Mark Cole and Jason Brooks point out that having a dream takes courage and hard work. They challenge you to start betting on yourself, take an inventory of your dream(s), and ask, "Do I own my dream?"

Our BONUS resource for this series is the Put Your Dream to the Test Worksheet, which includes fill-in-the-blank notes from John's teaching. You can download the worksheet by visiting MaxwellPodcast.com/Dream and clicking "Download the Bonus Resource."

that you definitely want to take careful notes on. But I'm going to get out of the way. We're going

to bring John in for part one of Put Your Dream to the Test.

I want to talk to you about a very important subject for all of us and that is how to really

1:04.6

make your dreams come true. Let me ask you just a simple question. How many of you have a dream?

1:09.8

Well, if you got a dream, get your hand out. Okay, that looks like about everybody in the room has

1:14.1

a dream. In fact, if you don't have a dream, why are you in the room? Okay? But most of us have dreams.

1:21.6

But what I've discovered is most of us really never accomplish those dreams. When I wrote the book,

1:28.7

put your dream to the test. We did a survey. And this survey kind of surprised me a little bit. In

1:35.0

fact, it was partially what motivated me to write the book. So let me just give it to you.

1:39.6

I discovered that 50% of the people have given up on an important dream in their life. In other words,

1:48.4

they had a dream, but they weren't getting there and finally they gave up. So when I ask you if all

1:56.7

of you had a dream, you all raised your hand, well, you're not a typical crowd. I know, but if you

2:01.4

were a typical crowd, what that would mean is half of you that raised your hand to had a dream,

2:06.2

you're going to give up on it. You're never going to get there. And when I heard that, I thought,

2:12.2

wow, something so important in a person's life, something so vital to you and me having a dream,

2:17.2

it keeps us alive, it gives us the passion. And yet 50% they give up on that dream. That should not
